I would like to thank the committee and members of the Scottish Border Terrier Club for the invitation to judge at this very friendly and well organised club show. My steward Pete Appleby was a great help, keeping things moving smoothly, and I am most grateful to the exhibitors for giving me such a lovely entry.

1 Lothian’s LAIREHOPE BIJOU
This six month old puppy is still very immature, but had a good head with a dark eye, neat ears, short, strong muzzle and correct bite. His neck flowed into a level top line and well set on tail. He was well angulated and presented in excellent coat with a very thick pelt. Movement a little loose at the moment. I was pleased to award him BPD
2 Blakey’s KENTWONE MONSTRO
A lot to like about this puppy, who had a masculine head, good coat and pelt. He moved out positively, but I preferred the top line and angulation of my winner, who also showed himself to better advantage.

1 Gilpin’s OTTERBOBS BRIMMER
He had a strong, masculine head, with a dark eye, keen expression and small, neat ears. His neck flowed into a well laid shoulder, with his ribs carried well back, a strong loin and good rear angulation. He had a harsh, dense coat, with a thick pelt. He moved out well with purpose and drive, showing a level top line and tail set which he held well on the move. I was pleased to award him BD and BOS.
2 Walker’s SMURFSKI JINGLE BELLS
This blue and tan dog had an attractive head with a dark eye and keen expression. Lighter in bone, he presented a balanced picture, but lacked coat today. Level top line and well set on carrot shaped tail. Clearly enjoying himself, he was a little vocal at times!

1 Milton’s BAILLIESWELLS KILCHOMAN
This was a lighter framed dog, with a dark eye, keen expression and correct bite. I would have liked to have seen a little more strength in his muzzle and he lacked depth of coat today. Narrow throughout, he was correctly angulated but was rather unsettled on the move.

1 Collis’ AKENSIDE GRAPHITE
This blue and tan, lighter framed dog presented a balanced picture, both standing and on the move.He had a good head with a dark eye, keen expression and a short, strong muzzle. His neck flowed into a level top line with a strong loin and well set on tail. He was easily spanned, although his ribs could have been carried further back. He was shown in a good double coat with a thick pelt. He moved out well with purpose.

This grizzle and tan dog had a lovely otter head, with a dark eye and keen expression, A good reach of neck flowed into a level top line, strong loin and good tail set. He stood out for his overall balance and sound construction, which enabled him to move with purpose and drive. Lacking depth of coat today, with his new top coat just coming through.

1 Archibald’s LAIREHOPE HIGHLAND CHIEF OF TWEEDBURN
Beautifully presented, this dog stood out for balance and moderation. He had a lovely head, with strong jaw, neat, small ears and a keen expression. A good reach of neck flowed into a level top line, strong loin and well set tail. His coat was harsh and dense, with a thick pelt. Sound in construction and movement. I was pleased to award him RBD.
2 Fryer’s KNOWECRAG TAM O’SHANTER BY IRTON
This blue and tan dog had a strong, masculine head, dark eye with keen expression, a short, strong muzzle and large teeth. Narrow and fairly long, his ribs were carried well back, he was strong through his loin and had well muscled hind quarters. Sound and workmanlike, he moved out well with purpose and drive. Shown in good double coat.

1 Thomson’s LAIREHOPE MINGLE
This 6 month old puppy was litter sister to the BPD and the 2nd placed bitch puppy. A lovely size and type, she had a feminine head, good length of neck and a level top line. A balanced youngster, she had presence and moved out well. Her coat was just coming through. I was pleased to award her BPB and BPIS.
2 Lothian’s LAIREHOPE JADE
A similar type to her sister, with many of the same qualities. She had a feminine head, dark eye and a short, strong muzzle. Her neck flowed into a level top line with a fairly short, well set tail. Balanced in her construction, she was narrow, with moderate length. Lacking confidence in her movement today, but once she gains this, I am sure that these two puppies could change places in the future.

This dark grizzle and tan bitch was balanced in her construction and showed with presence. She had a dark eye and keen expression. Her lovely reach of neck flowed into a narrow and fairly long body, with her ribs carried well back. Level in her top line, her tail was well set and carried gaily. Correctly constructed, with good angulation, she moved out positively with drive and purpose. Presented in a harsh double coat with a thick pelt. I was pleased to award her RBB and RBIS.
2 Wakefield’s REMONY FALLEN EMBERS
This was a feminine bitch, with dark eyes, neat ear and a correct bite. She presented a balanced picture, both standing and when moving, which she did with purpose and drive. Her coat was coming through, but lacked depth today, and I preferred the narrower construction of my winner.

This bitch had a feminine head with dark eyes, neat ear and correct bite. She was shown in a lovely harsh, dense coat with thick pelt. She moved out well, but was not as straight on the move as I would have liked.

This bitch stood out for her balance and sound construction. She had a beautiful head and was easily spanned. She was moderate in her angulation and bone and was shown in a good double jacket. She moved out well, but her tail was slightly low set and could have been carried more gaily on the move. BN

This bitch had a dark eye and keen expression. She had good angulation and bone, but her tail set was also slightly low. A little short of coat today.

This quality bitch had a lovely feminine head and good reach of neck, which flowed into her narrow and moderately long body. Easily spanned, her ribs were carried well back, her loin was strong and her tail well set and carried gaily. Correctly angulated in front and behind, she moved out effortlessly with purpose and drive, whilst maintaining a level top line. She was shown in a full coat today, with a thick, loose pelt. Very attentive to her handler, she showed with confidence and presence. I was pleased to award her BB and BIS.

This blue and tan bitch had a lovely head and keen expression. Slightly shorter in length, she was easily spanned and had a level top line and good tail set. Sound in her construction, she had straight forelimbs, very neat feet and correct angulation infront and behind. She could have moved out a little more positively.

This blue and tan bitch, was balanced in her construction and full of quality. She had a dark eye and varminty expression, although could have been slightly shorter in the muzzle. An elegant reach of neck flowed into a narrow body of moderate length, straight front legs and lovely small neat feet. Correctly angulated, she moved with purpose and drive covering the ground with ease.
2 Martin’s MERUMHOR BLUE JASMINE
This blue and tan bitch was a slightly smaller type but well constructed. She had a very attractive, feminine head, with a dark eye, small ears and a correct bite. Her neck flowing into a narrow body of moderate length. Her forelimbs were straight and she was easily spanned. Her ribs were carried well back with a strong loin and well set on tail. Correct angulation enabled her to move out positively with drive. Presented in a good double coat.

This 10 month old blue and tan puppy, who was 3rd in PB, had a feminine head, dark eye and correct bite. She was shown in a full coat and had a very thick pelt, but was carrying a little too much weight. Moderate in her construction, she was confident and moved out well. BSB

What a lovely class of veterans, all a credit to their owners. There was a considerable age range, and I would have liked to have had some more prize cards to present.

This 13 year old grizzle and tan bitch was presented in super condition. She had a feminine head, dark eye and a bright expression that showed she was still clearly enjoying life. Well constructed, she presented a balanced picture with moderate length and angulation. Narrow throughout, her top coat was just coming through. Sound in her movement, she stepped out positively. I was pleased to award her BVIS.

This 10 year old blue and tan dog was also shown in super condition. Well constructed with a lovely reach of neck, level top line and good tail set. Built on narrow lines with moderate angulation. Presented in a harsh, dense coat with thick pelt. Sound and positive, although I preferred the top line of my winner on the move
